Those Three Numbers - page 2
Often times, you will see three numbers included in the graphics of
the ski. They are important and will tell you a great deal about the
strengths and weaknesses of the ski design.
They refer to the width of the ski in millimeters at three places:
- The tip (at the widest point)
- The waist (at the narrowest point)
- The tail (at the widest point)
This describes the sidecut
which will be discussed more as we progress, but broadly speaking, the
more similar the numbers are, the faster the ski is, the bigger the
difference between the tip and the waist, the better the ski turns.
There is often another
number stamped on the side of the ski that gives the length in
centimeters - see page on sizing
So on to our Flow Chart - just answer a few (possibly tongue-in-cheek) questions and you'll know what type of ski you want!
